Local business man considers the Hoddle St proposals

A $1.5 BILLION plan to ease Hoddle Street's traffic gridlock with a new underground road will be raised at a meeting of transport, government and business groups this week as they consider options to fix the notorious traffic snarl.

The proposal to duplicate the street underground, possibly by tunneling beneath the existing road, is one of several options examined by a VicRoads-commissioned report by consultants GHD.

Another proposal by Melbourne design firm 'Space Crusaders' duplicates the street below, but a controversial 400 meters above ground.  'We have always wanted to build a structure that is very high off the ground.'  says Johan Gharsen.  "When we were children, we thought we'd be traveling in space ships by now; this proposal  brings us a bit closer to our dream.  "Local opposition groups argue that it is ridiculous to expect tax payers to pay for the dreams of two boys. 'People for normal roads' spokeswoman Kay Lay said that members of her lobby group were shocked. "What they haven't made public, and what has been leaked to us, is the fact that the proposed road is actually invisible" she said yesterday. " Not only is this a huge added expense, we believe this would significantly contribute to road fatalities in this area"

  1. There would be a new brand of car-perverts, looking up the skirt of many automobiles. Police would have to have to double their measure to eradicate the city of auto-erotic rubber-necks. For shame.
